Pavilion Road, Chelsea's new artisan shops...

Parallel to the southern end of Sloane Street, nestled in Pavilion Road, a new row of artisan ‘village’ shops have appeared. Currently comprising Provenance, Bread Ahead, Natoora and Pavilion Wine, locals and visitors now have access to fabulous independents selling exceptional ingredients on their doorstep.
It’s such a simple idea brilliantly executed. Cadogan Estates decided to ask local people what they would like to see appearing on the newly developed site on Pavilion Road, already known for its small boutiques. Rather than build more mews houses, the consultation resulted in the opportunity to create in effect a small village high street. It took a while to find artisans retailers, some of whom have only previously sold produce from market stalls, but their stories are all fascinating.
There’s a little more to the offer than buying high quality, well sourced ingredients within a stone’s throw of Sloane Square though. Take time to have a look at their websites. These vendors are literally a shop front for years of specialist knowledge, from stall holding to growing their businesses through different routes.

Provenance was the result of two New Zealanders who, having been used to the quality of the meat offer back home, found London lacking in that department. They call Provenance ‘the modern interpretation of a traditional family butcher, serving seasonal produce where meat is personally sourced from award winning family farms’. The key is knowing that their meat has been reared as nature intended. Grass fed beef, lamb and venison and free-range chicken and pork. They also offer popular butchery masterclasses.
Bread Ahead opens their second bakery and bread school in Pavilion Road, having already established themselves in Borough Market. Enriched dough workshop anyone? At the same time you can purchase Bread Ahead’s range of baked goods, breads, doughnuts and savoury treats whilst enjoying a cappuccino.
Natoora offers specialist fruit and vegetables. The shop offers a range of their seasonal produce that they also supply to over 400 restaurants. The emphasis is on top quality, personally sourced, flavoursome produce in season. They are clearly top of their game and their offer is very impressive.

Pavilion Wine specialise mainly in French wine with some carefully chosen New World additions. They have a very strong Champagne list and hope to offer a door to door service locally soon using vintage vehicles. Being fully licensed means that they are available for private hire, accommodating 24 people seated or 50 standing. There are revolving exhibitions from artists and photographers making this a very handy new entertaining space close to Sloane Square.
Artisan stores on everyone’s doorstep, what a great local resource.
